Why Does the Children's Aid Society Have a Membership?

  • Required to do so under the Corporations Act (incorporated as the Children's Aid Society of Oxford County).
  • Provides a resource pool from which to develop future Directors of the Society.
  • Provides a resource pool from which to recruit volunteers/foster parents or to request assistance in meeting other special needs of the Society.
  • The Society can provide information and increase awareness of the programs and services of the Society and the needs of children and families in the county.
  • Has the potential to provide a climate of strong community support for our services.
  • Avoids possible allegations of a closed in-house group which self perpetuates itself in the directing of an important organization.

Becoming a Member of the Society

By becoming a member of the Children's Aid Society of Oxford County, you indicate your interest in what happens to children and families in Oxford County. A strong membership indicates valued support of the work that the Society does and its Mission and it also entitles you to voting privileges at the Society's Annual Meeting. Society members can be called upon to act as Directors of the Society's Board of Directors or to assist in meeting the special needs of the Society in its work with children and families.
