wishing-well-campaignOxford Children's Aid Society is aiming to raise $100,000 to help fuel the funding of post secondary education for kids in care. At least ten youth in care will be attending post-secondary institutions this year, and Oxford CAS executive director Bruce Burbank expects the number to grow in the coming years.

"We want them to dream big," he said. "We want, as parents, to provide for them."

The goal of the CAS Endownment Fund is to raise $1 from every person living in Oxford County.

"This is the first time we've established a separate fund," Burbank said. "Some CAS's have them ... our agency hasn't had one, not in recent history."

The funding, as a bursary, is meant to be in addition to the financial aid already available to the youth that includes OSAP, some provincial funding and RESPs.

"It's not enough," Burbank said. "The bursaries are designed to top up other supports they are eligible for."

The money will also be used to send children not care, but who families CAS is working with, to residential camps.

The funds could also be used for innovative programs and pilot projects.

The CAS endowment fund is held in trust with the Oxford Community Foundation.
